In 2017 CASAC established a partnership with Students for Law & Social Justice (SLSJ) to roll out a series of events under the title of #WeThePeople on university campuses and surrounding communities. This featured discussions on community and campus radio stations as well as meetings in local communities addressing pertinent constitutional issues. These events were undertaken at the following SLSJ branches – UCT, Pretoria, UKZN, PMB, Wits, Walter Sisulu, and Fort Hare. Support for the project was enlisted from the Canon Collins Education and Legal Assistance Trust (CCELAT)
The second annual #WeThePeople project was facilitated by CASAC, Students for Law and Social Justice and the Canon Collins Trust in September and October 2018, as part of collaborative efforts to educate and engage with community members . This project included weekly radio discussions on Kumkani FM and the Voice of the Cape on various topics pertaining to rights in the Constitution along with community discussions. Discussions were held on the right to education, the land debate and gender-based violence to name a few.
